The book introduces mental disorder as a deviance from the norm which is not a generally accepted definition of mental disorder. The definition would be classified as a social dysfunction which can have various risk contexts associated with the behavior. These risks would include prejudice, descrimination, deprivation of resources, isolation, and even assault by other humans in their environment.

The social dysfunction does not generally indicate a mental disorder is present. However, the condition of the environment can onset mental illness or irregular behaviors. These onset behaviors would be statistically deviated from normal societal expectations in a large statistical area of human earth environments for it to be classified as a disorder.

An example is any social behavior an examinee does not like to participate in that is prevalent in their community. They may have been exposed to books, media, broadcasts, publications, or streams that onset a preference for different behaviors. These exposures may cause some to deviate from generally accepted behaviors in their communities. However, if the preferred behavior is not illegal and if a suitable community or living environment can be found elsewhere, the behaviors do not indicate a mental disorder.

Biologically, alternate behaviors may be sought out as a way to increase genetic diversity. They may also be sought as a form of self preservation. This is notable in environments where the standard behavior is self harm. Socialization becomes detrimental to self preservation and gene propagation. Life processes are instead sought elsewhere and the social deviation may be a form of preparation for a new human environment that is more suitable to their health and ongoing Earth goals. This normally does not require life long, ongoing, or intermittent interaction with the originating gene pool. The move can be to separate from environments they no longer find appealing. The separation does not have to be harmful.

Other than this observation on mental disorder, the book is logically sound and based on data backed evidence. It introduces diagnostic and risk models. It addresses causes, treatment, and care. There are dedicated sections for specific disorders, and a consumer guide to psychopathology is included. This is appropriate with the trend toward self care with limited interactions from professionals.

The book introduces readers to the DSM and includes excerpts. There are also sections on medical equipment, and best practices for diagnosis.
